Webinar Recap – Ask Me Anything with Eric Yuan & Zoom Leadership: April 21

April 23, 2021

In this month’s “Ask Me Anything” webinar hosted by Zoom CEO, Eric S. Yuan, we provided an update on our progress since our last executive session on March 17, 2021.

Eric was joined on the webinar by Lynn Haaland, Chief Privacy Officer and Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer, and guest speaker Tony Palmer, Senior IT Validation Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG). Jason Lee, Chief Information Security Officer, and Brendan Ittelson, Chief Technology Officer, joined us for the Q&A session.

If you missed this month’s session, you can watch the recording here:

Recent announcements

2:22-6:24: Eric began the webinar with recent announcements and updates, starting with the Zoom Apps Fund — a new $100 million venture fund created to support innovation in Zoom’s ecosystem of Zoom Apps, integrations, developer platform, and hardware. The Zoom Apps Fund will invest in developer partners with viable products and early market traction who are looking to build valuable and engaging experiences for our customers. He also touched upon our new in-product privacy notifications, noting that Lynn Haaland would further expand on the launch later in the webinar.

Finally, Eric shared recent survey findings that reflect employees’ preferences around the future of work. A poll we conducted in partnership with SurveyMonkey revealed that a hybrid work environment was the ideal work model for 65% of respondents, and 69% said they prefer to meet new clients or customers face-to-face at the office.

In-product privacy notifications

6:25-10:23: Lynn spoke to the launch of new in-product privacy notifications. These notifications will make it easier for users to understand who can see, save, and share their content and information when they join meetings and experiences hosted on Zoom.

These notices are designed to help users make informed decisions about how they use our platform without disrupting the frictionless Zoom experience. Notifications have been available in U.S. English as of the April 19 product update and will be rolled out in other languages over the next few months.

Security technical review

10:24-18:27: Tony Palmer discussed a recent technical review conducted by ESG, which reviewed the security, ease of use, and flexibility of the Zoom platform.

Security: The ESG review covered a number of Zoom security capabilities, including optional end-to-end encryption, passcode protection, optional two-factor authentication, identity-based security, data routing control, At-Risk Meeting Notifier, and in-meeting controls. Ease of use: ESG found that Zoom’s platform makes it easy for meeting hosts and attendees to start, join, and collaborate securely across devices. Zoom also offers centralized IT management and remote assistance that simplifies deployment and support, including the ability to track utilization and usage trends, view version distribution, and assign granular permission settings at the account, group, and user levels.Flexibility: Users can join Zoom Meetings using a desktop client, mobile app, or web client via the Zoom web portal. ESG’s review also reflected on the flexibility that comes with the Zoom web portal, which can be used for editing profiles, adjusting meeting and Zoom Phone settings, and accessing meeting recordings in the cloud.

According to Tony, ESG recommends serious consideration of Zoom by organizations that recognize the importance of secure hybrid collaboration to the success of their business.

Q&A

18:28-39:11: For the Q&A session, the panel fielded relevant questions from the audience. From security tips for remote workers to the process for removing disruptive users from a meeting to the use of multi-factor authentication, the questions prompted a lively discussion from the entire panel.

Thank you!
