Introducing Zoom Node: A Hybrid Approach to Reliable Connectivity

October 1, 2022

Hybrid work poses a different kind of challenge when it comes to internet connectivity and bandwidth optimization.

As the world of work evolves, you may need to implement hybrid networks within your infrastructure to address the scale of your workforce. That’s only compounded by the fact that you’re tasked with prioritizing network resiliency in the chance an outage or threat impacts your organization.

That’s why we’re excited to announce the launch of Zoom Node, a central hub for hosting a variety of Zoom workloads — or modules — designed to address certain customer deployment requirements like loss of internet connectivity, in-country compliance, or bandwidth optimization. Managed and controlled from the Zoom cloud, Zoom Node is designed to virtually connect the Zoom cloud to customer data centers.

Flexibility and reliability go hand in hand

Unlike a traditional on-premises solution, Zoom Node pairs the simplicity of cloud web-based management with the reliability and scale of technology that spans both cloud and on-premises, giving you the flexibility to adopt and migrate services at your own pace. It is designed to integrate with your existing network, server and storage investments, and security and compliance technologies.

Zoom Node gives you the ability to keep your real-time voice and video on-premises and close to your end users, and provide functionalities, such as cloud phone survivability, in the event of a network failure. You get the scalability and cost-effectiveness of the cloud while enhancing local network performance, safeguarding your organization’s essential communications.

With Zoom Node, you can:

Maintain granular control over how your resources are used and consumed, building your own location and resource policies and assigning certain services to an office, region or country Implement automatic updates of the operating systems and applications that reside on Zoom Node Adopt the latest Zoom Node software without resulting in downtime to your users, prioritizing agility and security simultaneously Automate common tasks, including enrolling and renewing certificates and managing DNS records for each Zoom Node serviceDiagnose and troubleshoot server problemsView the key performance indicators for your entire organization at a glance and easily spot usage trends.

Meet the modules

Modules are service-specific software that run on Zoom Nodes, providing hybrid services. Each Zoom Node is capable of supporting up to four service modules. The Zoom Phone Local Survivability (ZPLS), the first module launching in conjunction with Zoom Node, is designed for businesses that need to maintain certain levels of telephony service and business continuity in the event the IP connectivity is lost to the cloud.

Zoom Phone, a cloud-based service, is normally dependent on reliable IP connectivity to Zoom’s data centers. However, in the event of an unforeseen loss of connectivity, Zoom can offer a survivability solution of basic telephony services in order to provide an additional layer of protection. An outage can be the result of an internet service failure at a business location or a failure in multiple Zoom data centers that prevent client devices from reaching Zoom Phone components.

Support your flexible workforce with a hybrid approach

By extending Zoom cloud workloads to enterprise infrastructure through Zoom Node, you can now standardize deployment and build a resilient infrastructure that supports uninterrupted collaboration. Employees can do their best work from anywhere while your business expands and evolves without constraint.
